Romantic Moonstone – Lit From Within With A Glow Like Moonlight

Moonstone has long been considered a good luck gem especially for lovers. At one time it was believed to arouse tender passions and give lovers the ability to foretell the future.

The magic and mystery of moonstone is due to its adularescence – a shimmering blue light that glows from within the gem and seemingly floats over the surface, appearing and disappearing as the stone is tilted. This characteristic has made moonstone popular for rings because as the hand moves the shimmering glow is more pronounced.

Moonstone is the best-known form of the mineral feldspar. And the most popular type is colorless and translucent with a bluish, milky or silvery sheen that glows from beneath its surface. Moonstone is usually cut in a smoothly rounded cabochon shape which accent its adularescence and gives it a serene and mysterious beauty.

In addition to the colorless variety, moonstone also comes in a variety of colors…green, yellow, pink, gray and brown. With a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, moonstone is somewhat delicate and should be protected from hard knocks.
