How To Take Care Of Tanzanite

This deep, periwinkle-blue form of the mineral zoisite has an exquisite color totally unlike any other gemstone. It comes from only one place on Earth…Tanzania…near Mt. Kilimanjaro in East Africa. Discovered in 1967, tanzanite was named by Tiffany & Company in 1968 and since 2003 has been one of three special December birthstones.

anzanite is relatively soft with a hardness of 6 on the Mohs scale. This means it is perfect for pendants, earrings, and pins but is vulnerable in rings, so be careful. Always protect tanzanite from being scratched by other gems, metals, stones, and walls. Do not use mechanical cleaners and chemicals. Clean with warm soapy water, dry carefully, and avoid temperature extremes.
